What is Spread Love Across America?

Spread Love Across America is a small, intentional project sending pre-printed postcards with kind messages to randomly selected addresses across the U.S. It’s a quiet act of hope, created to remind people that they’re not alone — and that kindness still travels.

What is Send a Smile?

Send a Smile is a way to help fund postcards so we can reach more people.

  • You choose a postcard design from our categories of Hope, Kindness, or Unity.
  • We print the card with a pre-written message and mail it to a randomly selected address in the U.S.
  • You’ll receive a note letting you know which city and state your postcard reached.

How can simple acts of kindness benefit mental health?

Kindness helps more than just the recipient — it also supports your own well-being. According to the American Psychiatric Association, acts of kindness can:

  • Boost happiness by releasing serotonin
  • Lower stress by reducing cortisol
  • Strengthen social connection and reduce loneliness
  • Support physical health through relaxation and heart benefits

Sending even a small message of kindness helps create connection on both ends.

Who receives the postcards?

Postcards are sent to random addresses across the U.S. We don’t use names or personal identifiers — just verified, public address data — so recipients remain anonymous, and privacy is protected.

Do recipients know who sent the postcard?

No. Postcards include a short link to our website, but no sender information is ever shared. Your name, email, or payment details are never printed or disclosed.

How are addresses chosen?

We use OpenAddresses.io, a public, non-personally identifiable data source.

Here’s how it works:

  1. A state is randomly selected.
  2. A city or county within that state is randomly selected.
  3. Addresses within that location are sorted and selected randomly.

Because this is a pilot project, address selection is currently manual, so if you purchase multiple postcards, they may be sent within the same general area.

Can I choose where my postcards go?

Not directly — and that’s part of the mission. All postcards are sent to randomly selected addresses to preserve the spirit of unexpected kindness.

That said, we sometimes offer location-specific send options (for example, focusing on communities like Weslaco, TX). If you'd like your postcards to join that effort, you can opt in using a Kindness Code during checkout.

Can I see where my postcards were sent?

Yes! After your postcards are mailed, you’ll receive general details about the city and state each one was sent to. We never share recipient names or full addresses.

What are the postcard designs?

Our postcards are designed around three themes:

  • Hope — for anyone who might need a gentle nudge through something hard.
  • Kindness — small gestures that make a big impact.
  • Unity — reminders that we belong to each other.

All artwork is created using Adobe Firefly and curated for warmth, simplicity, and meaning. New designs may be added over time.

Can I include my own custom message?

Currently, all postcards sent through the Send a Smile Service use pre-written messages carefully selected to match the design you choose. This helps us send messages quickly and consistently — but future customization options may be added as we grow.

How much does it cost?

It costs $1.50 per postcard, which covers:

  • Professional printing
  • Processing and address handling
  • U.S. postage and mailing

This allows us to send more postcards out into the world.

Is this a nonprofit?

Not yet. Spread Love Across America is currently being piloted to test its impact and sustainability. While we aren’t structured as a nonprofit at this time, we operate with transparency, ethics, and a clear mission to serve.
